Matt entered software engineering through a non-traditional path. He joined the industry later in his career—entirely self-taught, without a specialized education at the start, achieving what many considered impossible. Instead of academic theory, he learned system architecture in practice: through nearly two decades of real projects, mistakes, production incidents, and complex engineering decisions.
Later, while already working full-time in the industry, Matt obtained a degree in Computer Science but quickly realized that formal education does not always prepare one for the real challenges of professional development. Today, he works as a Senior Software Engineer at Blackboard, LLC, and his experience encompasses high-demand and critically important systems in the fields of EdTech, banking, finance, insurance, and healthcare.
Matt's philosophy is built around the idea that professional efficiency is impossible without a strong personal foundation. His principle "CodeLiftSleep" is not just a name but a life approach:
— Code — a love for creation and engineering thinking.
— Lift — discipline and physical health that support mental clarity.
— Sleep — the recovery necessary for consistently high performance.
Matt is convinced that career success begins with how a person builds their own life.
This project is designed for the new generation of developers—CS graduates, bootcamp program graduates, self-taught engineers, and mid-level developers who want to understand how theory translates into real engineering practice.
"Only you define the boundaries of your story. People may doubt you, but the desire to learn, discipline, and a strong foundation are always more important than others' limitations."
