Yogi Sharma is a career coach, former software engineer, and researcher at Facebook/Meta during the company’s rapid growth period. Yogi worked at Facebook from 2011 (when the company had only a few hundred employees) to 2017 (when it had grown to tens of thousands).
Over these years, he participated in the development of various infrastructure systems—from failure recovery and caching to network equipment. Yogi went through successful performance reviews and challenging periods, interacted extensively with colleagues, and learned how to build a career and achieve results in a tech company.
Before working at Meta, Yogi completed his PhD in theoretical computer science at Cornell University. He also taught undergraduate courses at Cornell and the University of Waterloo. Yogi graduated with a bachelor's degree in computer science from IIT Kanpur, receiving the prestigious President’s Gold Medal for the highest GPA in his class.
One of the key moments in his career was a situation at Facebook when, in the middle of a review cycle, he received a preliminary rating of Meets Most (does not meet most expectations). Yogi was able to demonstrate his contributions to the team, and his final rating was raised by three levels to Greatly Exceeds. This experience, along with other lessons from his career, formed the basis of his course.
